Oak trees do not produce acorns until they are fifty years of age. Although some produce at 20-30 years but 50 is the average and by 70-80 years they will produce thousands!
Those are SO cool!! I have never seen acorns in real life! I actually used to think they were made up for cartoons when I was little. I'm jealous that you get to see them I think you should send me some. :P:P
Oh weird! We have a little baby oak tree in our front yard. I didn't know it was an oak tree until I found acorns on it last winter. I was all, "woah, baby oak tree with acorns!".
It's some kind of oak tree popular in Texas, which is known for acorn-ing (acorn-ing??) at a young age. Texas is cool like dat.
Your post reminded me of the last time I visited my grandparents in Arizona. I learned while I was there that the Saguaro cactus takes a long time (up to 75 years) to grow it's FIRST ARM! So when you see all those big ol' cacti in Arizona with the big ol' arms...they're all OLD! How's that for fascinating?
This post reminds me of home! I grew up in Massachusetts and moved to FL a couple years after collage. Love the warm weather, beach and palm trees but man do I miss fall, oak trees and those nice crisp cool days! Thanks for the walk down memory lane
